Salaam Alaykum Brothers and Sisters,

Islamic Ahlulbayt Foundation of New Zealand is pleased to announce that Sayed Mohammad Almodarresi will be the new Resident Aalim for Hussainiya. This announcement was made to the community on the program of Wiladat of Imam Ali Reza (a.s) by Sayed Derhamy.

Sayed Mohammad Almodarresi was born in Kuwait and grew up across the Middle East, namely, Iran, Iraq, and Syria. Coming from a family of respected scholars, Sayed Mohammad Almodarresi is the son of Ayatullah Sayed Taqi Almodarresi

Sayed began his Islamic studies after he received his diploma, and studied in the Hawza seminaries of Iran, Iraq, and Syria. Sayed has also studied, taught and conducted numerous lessons on the great tome Nahj Al Balagha. Due to his extensive studies in Iran, travels throughout the Islamic world, and his subsequent residence in Aotearoa New Zealand, he speaks Farsi and English to a very high degree, next to his native language of Arabic. This makes him a highly versatile scholar, who is able to communicate naturally with people of different ethnicities and faiths.

Furthermore, Sayed used to run a radio program called Al Huda in Iran and is also an established author, who has published a number of books and articles, including the book, So We Don’t Die In Despair لكي لا نموت باليأس

Sayed Mohammad Almodarresi has been a member of our community for a long time since he arrived in New Zealand and has given countless lectures that have benefitted our community dearly. He also represented our community when the March 15th attacks happened last year by speaking on National TV on behalf of our Hussainiya.

During the Covid-19 lockdown, Sayed had a 31 part series during the month of Ramadan. Every night, he presented a lecture on the topic of The Maxims of Imam Ali (a.s.) live on the IAFONZ Facebook page.

Additionally, we have started youth programs on a regular basis at Hussainiya under Sayed’s supervision, where the youth of our community come together and hold a discussion on various topics.

Sayed is a well known leader in our community and we are truly honored to have him as our Resident Aalim. We would like to thank him for joining us and InshAllah our community will prosper under his leadership.

Salaam Alaykum Brothers and Sisters,

Following the Government’s decision to ease restrictions on places of worship, we are happy to announce that Hussainiya will be officially opening it’s doors from tomorrow Friday May 29th, 2020.

However, this being said, there will still be precautionary restrictions in place for the safety of our community. Please read this email carefully as it lists out all the precautions Hussainiya will be taking.

General

  • The most important point is that if you feel unwell or have a cold, please do not come to Hussainiya. We cannot emphasize this enough. Please take this seriously. Any person with flu symptoms will not be allowed for greater benefit of the community. High risk people with pre-existing health conditions may remain at home.
  • Every single person that enters Hussainiya MUST fill out their details in a register by the main door. This will be used in case of contact tracing.
  • Hand sanitizer stations have been installed at the entrance and throughout the Centre. Please sanitize your hands upon entry before filling out your details. Please regularly sanitize your hands and your children’s hands while you are at Hussainiya.
  • Physical distancing needs to practiced by keeping a 1 metre distance between each other.
  • It is recommended that everyone wears mask and gloves.
  • It is recommended to avoid handshakes and hugs.
  • Ensure good hygiene at all times, try to do your Wudhu from home, and wear socks.

Jumah Salaat
Jumah Salaat will resume from tomorrow Friday May 29th at 12:30pm. We have got confirmation from the office of Ayatollah Sayed Sistani that a 1m distance is permissible between people for Jamaat Salaat, which is required for social distancing.

The distances will be marked for your convenience on the carpet with tape. Please follow the markings and ask our volunteers if you need any help.

We appreciate your cooperation and your support. Together InshAllah we can help keep our community safe.
